Kutch
is an ancient land possessed of great antiquity which takes its name from its
geographical characteristics and
topographical features resembling a tortoise (Kachchh), the name by which it has
been referred to in the ancient
literature, has been defined by Mallinathi, in his ‘Bhashya Sanjivani’ on
‘Amarkosh’, as a marshy region or waste land
or a damp retion or fallow low land.
BANASKANTHA
Banaskantha District includes the area around the Bank of Banas river. The
District
is situated between 23.33 to 24.45
north latitude and72.15 to 73.87 east longitude. Banaskantha District lies on
north-west side of Gujarat State. The
District is surrounded by Marwad and Sirohi regions of Rajasthan State in the
north,
Sabarkantha District in the east,
Mehshana District in the south and Patan District in the west.Border of Pakistan
touches the desert.
PATAN
Vanraj Chavda had founded Aṇahilpur Patan in 802 CE as capital of his state.
Capital
was named on his friend name Anhil
Bharvad. Aṇahilpur Patan was famous as capital in era of Vanraj Chavda and
Solanki
or Chaulukya dynasty. Patan was ruled
by powerful kings like King Bhimdev, Siddhraj Jaisinh, Kumarpal. Udan, Munjal
Mehta,
Tejpal – Vastupal were secretaries
to Kings in different era of Chaulukya kingdom.
